I’m often amazed by the amazing work that happens here at New Roots every day.  There are so many thing going on that I struggle to keep all of our followers truly updated by just a few facebook posts a week.

People often ask us about our life here, curious what it’s like to live on the mission field.  It’s hard for us to truly sum up life for someone whose never been to Haiti.  It’s like nothing you’ve ever experienced before.  After 10 years in Haiti, life here has become our new normal.  Yet what is normal for us, is far from normal for many of you.  Therefore I sometimes forget to post things that have become mundane.  Nick and I don’t like to post much about our lives and instead try to focus more on our employees and the work happening at New Roots.  This often leaves a disconnect between us and those in the US and Canada.

We so wish each and everyone of you could visit Haiti and see our farm.  Meet our employees and see how hard they work every day.  Get to know the kids in our soccer program and see for yourselves how much potential they have.  That of course is something that isn’t going to happen for most people, especially now with COVID and so much political unrest.

For a long time Nick and I have discussed ways to connect more with our base in the US and Canada.  We’ve continually asked ourselves, how can we provide better updates.  How can we show people a real life update into what not only our lives are like but also what is happening on the farm.

Nick and I are excited, nervous, and also embarrassed to announce something new that’s coming for New Roots this year.

We have decided to hire a Haitian photographer/videographer to help us provide better updates.  Each week we will be posting a new video on to our channel which will highlight some of the main events that have occurred over the week.  It’ll be a mix of our family and New Roots.

So why are we embarrassed by this?  Because both of us prefer to be BEHIND the camera, not in front of it.  It has already been an adjustment to have a camera man follow us around while we are working.  But we are willing to do it because we think it’s important to show you a real life version of Haiti.

Our hope is that this helps give each of you a better insight into our lives and our ministry.  We hope it allows you to feel more connected to our employees and players and allows you to see why we are so proud of the work they do.

Feel free to check out our new channel.  And please SUBSCRIBE so that you don’t miss out on all the exciting announcements that are coming to be coming out over the next few weeks and months as well.  Leave a comment on one of our videos to help us welcome Aly to the New Roots team and let him know what you think of his videos!!
