Why we Choose Social Enterprise?

At New Roots, we believe that true, lasting change comes from within a community—not from continued reliance on outside aid. That’s why we intentionally invest in social enterprises that generate income, create jobs, and strengthen Haiti’s local economy.

Our farm, dental clinic, and water treatment center were built through generous donations, but their daily operating costs are now covered by product sales, ensuring sustainability for the long term. If we were no longer here, we want these programs to continue—rooted in local ownership and economic viability.

For years, we heard the same complaint: “There’s just not enough quality content in Haitian Creole.” So, we did something about it. We’ve empowered Haitian professionals with the tools and resources to design culturally relevant, engaging educational curriculum for the next generation. Sales from this curriculum not only create professional jobs and student work-study opportunities in printing and production but also help offset the cost of our own school operations.

By building businesses with purpose, we are planting seeds for a thriving, independent future.

One of the best ways to fight poverty is by stimulating local economies.

Farm & Feed Mill

Our feed mill ensures that grassroots farmers have a reliable place to sell their crops, helping them provide for their families. In addition, our farm enterprise currently employs 10 full-time staff members and 15 part-time workers in our butcher shop. All of these salaries are fully funded through meat sales—not donations.

We intentionally keep prices extremely low for clinic services so families can afford the care they need, yet the clinic still generates enough income to cover three full-time salaries. Our toothpaste line, Souri Wayal (Royal Smile), is another powerful example. Every tube of toothpaste sold supports affordable oral healthcare in the community.

Creole Curriculum

For years, we heard the same complaint: “There’s just not enough quality content in Haitian Creole.” So we did something about it. We’ve empowered Haitian professionals with the tools and resources to create culturally relevant, engaging educational curriculum for the next generation. These sales create professional jobs and also give teens work-study opportunities in printing and production. Proceeds help offset a portion of our school operating costs.

Water Treatment Center

We also provide affordable, clean drinking water through our reverse osmosis water treatment system, selling 5 gallons of purified water for just $0.50. These sales allow us to employ 2.5 people and cover all ongoing maintenance costs. This operation not only creates jobs—it improves the overall health of the community by giving families access to safe drinking water at an extremely low cost.

By building businesses with purpose, we’re planting seeds for a thriving, independent future
one rooted in dignity, opportunity, and local leadership.
