Why We Created This Curriculum

Too many Haitian children struggle to learn how to read—not because they lack potential, but because the tools don’t speak their language. We created this Haitian Creole curriculum to meet students where they are, in the language they know best.

At New Roots, we believe education is more than memorizing facts—it’s about building confidence, sparking joy, and creating meaningful connections. This curriculum is designed to help children thrive in their first language, laying a strong foundation for lifelong learning, dignity, and opportunity.

Why Learning in Their Native Language Matters

Research shows that children learn best when they begin reading in their mother tongue. Starting with Creole helps students:

  • Build reading fluency faster

  • Understand what they’re reading more deeply

  • Feel seen, capable, and confident

  • Strengthen their cultural identity

  • Transition more successfully to additional languages later

When students are taught in a language they understand, the results are transformative—academically, emotionally, and spiritually.

How It Works

Our curriculum is built on hands-on learning, play, and a progressive, student-centered approach—all in Haitian Creole. It’s easy to use in schools, homeschool settings, or community programs.

It’s also designed to be open-and-go, giving teachers everything they need with little to no planning or prep work. With clear instructions, ready-to-use materials, and engaging content, educators can focus on what matters most—connecting with students and bringing learning to life.

What’s Included

Our Haitian Creole curriculum is built to engage students across subjects while honoring their language and culture. It’s flexible, easy to use, and full of hands-on, meaningful content.

We designed the content to be developmentally appropriate, culturally affirming, and easy to follow, even for teachers without formal training.
